Overview

Not content with being the first pair in the world to Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) the length of Britain, Dave Chant and Sophie Witter hiked back. But that wasn’t enough.

Barely one week after they finished hiking, they plan to be the first to paddle, hike and cycle the length of Britain within a calendar year.

It’s the final piece to their LEJOGLEJOG – Land’s End to John O’Groats (paddle), back to Land’s End (hike) and back again to John O’Groats (cycle)!

Their journey this time will take them on wheels 1845 kilometres back the North East point of mainland Britain from its South West point.

Their third expedition is titled “SUP It & Sea – The Cycle” and will take 3 weeks or more to complete over Spring 2022 from 18 April 2022.

The Route

Options for cycling are numerous. There’s no one set path, though many cyclists combine popular routes. Most routes are between 1600km and 1800km.

“SUP It & Sea” have decided to buck the trend and take a slightly longer route that adds the Dumfries and Ayrshire coastline that they paddle for nostalgia, and also take in Fort William and the Great Glen (both areas from the paddle and hike).

Throughout the journey we want to highlight all the fantastic elements that the UK has to offer – pretty villages, beautiful rivers, coast and mountains, and courageous everyday people.

The route is split into the following rough 7 sections:-

  • Crossing Cornwall, Devon and Somerset
  • The Heart of England
  • Cumbria to Carlisle at the Scottish Borders
  • Dumfries and Ayrshire (to Glasgow)
  • Trossachs and Highlands
  • The Caledonian Canal
  • North East Scotland.

The route is further divided into 20 days:-

  1. Land’s End to White Cross (near Newquay)
  2. White Cross to Hatherleigh
  3. Hatherleigh to Taunton
  4. Taunton to Clevedon
  5. Clevedon to Gloucester
  6. Gloucester to Kidderminster
  7. Kidderminster to Nantwich
  8. Nantwich to Chorley
  9. Chorley to Kirkby Lonsdale
  10. Kirkby Lonsdale to Carlisle
  11. Carlisle to Dumfries
  12. Dumfires to New Galloway
  13. New Galloway to Irvine
  14. Irvine to Balloch
  15. Ballock to Killin
  16. Killin to Fort William
  17. Fort William to Inverness
  18. Inverness to Lairg
  19. Lairg to Bettyhill
  20. Bettyhill to John O’Groats

All planning times are estimates only and subject to our poor skills as cyclists, saddle sore bums and maybe even weather conditions.
